HOW I WORK on design
I start with research and analizes. I try to collect as many information as possible about the clients needs and expectation of the future garden. I ask what function garden has to play, how many people and what age will use the area and are there any animals which needs also has to be considered. I am interested in favorite colors and materials, what plants are absolutely a must and who will take care of them after realization. I also ask about budget planned for garden as it is one of the most important guideline for the design.
Terrain analyses is next step Another part of those initial analyzes concerns the terrain itself. Often this first contact and interview with client is taking place on the plot where I can see the neighborhood, unattractive elements to be hidden or maybe some beautiful spot which would be great to look at. I pay attention to plants worth keeping, how sunny or shady is the area , what is the building architecture, are there any additional storages or buildings. Based on collected informations I prepare a quote for design works If the investor decides to cooperate and we agree a contract I start with accurate plant inventory and analyze documents showing existing or planned installations and buildings.
And only then I start proper design process. Taking into account all the above-mentioned elements I plan functional and utility program for the area. Then I develop concept till all necessary hardscape elements (driveway, terrace, paths and other solid elements) are planned. After that there is time to choose plants for the whole design and places worth to be light up so that the garden becomes more character after dusk. The last task before first presentation is to chose finish materials, additional decorative elements adding original character of the design.
First version of the design is presented to the client I present the first design and clients submits corrections which I include to the next version of the project. Usually two such consecutive amendments are enough to agree the final version of the design. Then I prepare an estimate for the final version of the project. After agreeing the final cost I create work schedule and the most exciting part - implementation starts.
